Etymology

Sinchijawa - "Strength From Above"

1. sinchi

- Meaning: strong, powerful, mighty, brave, resilient, stubborn, hard, etc.
- A very common Quechua root word used to describe warriors, leaders, or anything with imposing strength. In the 20th century, Peru began adopting the word to describe their tactical unit forces who engaged in various virtuous operations.

2. *lawa / -jawa / -jagua

- Meaning: above, upward on top, high place
* The spelling varies because Spanish chroniclers wrote Indigenous sounds inconsistently. In modern Kichwa orthography, jawa (“above/upward”) is the closest match.
